The fan paper is painstakingly coated with layers of persimmon tannin, which has been handed down since the Heian period (794-1185), and the more it is used, the more it tastes better. The beautiful luster of the persimmon tannin fan paper and the bamboo shaft with foil maki-e applied by a foil craftsman give it a Japanese “iki” (style) feel. The white waves are drawn with the “Kanazawa foil maki-e technique. This technique produces powerful waves. The surface is brown and the reverse side is dark blue, making it reversible.
